Karnataka Government Announces Free Two-Wheelers for Persons with Disabilities

Bangalore, India – November 18, 2023 – In a move to promote inclusivity and empower persons with disabilities, the Karnataka government has announced a scheme to provide free two-wheelers to eligible individuals. This initiative aims to enhance their mobility, independence, and participation in society.

The scheme, unveiled by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, will initially benefit 1,000 persons with disabilities across Karnataka. The government has allocated a budget of Rs. 100 crore for the procurement and distribution of these two-wheelers.

To be eligible for the scheme, applicants must be residents of Karnataka and possess a valid disability certificate. Priority will be given to individuals with severe disabilities and those from economically weaker sections.

The government has partnered with a leading automobile manufacturer to provide customized two-wheelers tailored to the specific needs of persons with disabilities. These vehicles will be equipped with features like ramps, hand-operated controls, and comfortable seating arrangements to ensure a safe and convenient riding experience.

Chief Minister Bommai stated, “This scheme is a testament to our government’s commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable society for all. By providing persons with disabilities with access to personalized transportation, we are empowering them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.”
