Amazon has announced that its popular streaming service, Prime Video, will begin incorporating limited advertisements into its Indian offerings starting in 2025. This move follows a similar rollout in several other countries earlier this year, including the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the U.K.
The company states that the introduction of ads is aimed at supporting continued investment in high-quality content for its subscribers. Amazon assures users that the number of advertisements shown will be significantly fewer than those found on traditional television or other streaming platforms.
To cater to viewers who prefer an ad-free experience, Amazon will offer an option to subscribe to a plan without commercials. The pricing for this ad-free tier has yet to be announced. Amazon has confirmed that it will notify all Prime members in India several weeks prior to the launch of ads, providing detailed information about how to opt for the ad-free subscription if they choose.
Importantly, the current annual price of a Prime membership in India, which currently stands at Rs. 1,499, will remain unchanged in 2025. Prime Lite subscribers will continue to enjoy access to the full library of Prime Video content on any single device (TV or mobile) in 720p High-Definition, albeit with advertisements.
