Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a global icon known for her captivating performances in both Hollywood and Bollywood, recently shed light on the fascinating differences between working in these two dynamic film industries. During a recent interview with Forbes India, the “Citadel” star offered a glimpse into the distinct rhythms that govern filmmaking in each world.
Priyanka Chopra noted that Hollywood operates with a meticulous level of organization, characterized by an abundance of paperwork and precise scheduling. “There’s so much paperwork,” she shared, “100 emails that will come to you before the next day. And timings are very specific.” She explained that while this approach ensures efficiency, it leaves little room for improvisation unless working with a filmmaker who embraces a more flexible style.
In contrast, Priyanka Chopra described Bollywood as a place where “jugaad” – a resourceful and adaptable approach – reigns supreme. “We have a lot more jugaad,” she said, “we get stuff done.” This “can-do” attitude often leads to organic creativity and on-the-fly adjustments, reflecting the vibrant and improvisational spirit of Indian cinema.
Despite these contrasting approaches, Priyanka Chopra emphasized that filmmaking ultimately speaks a universal language. “Otherwise it’s the same,” she observed, referring to the shared roles and processes across both industries. “You have the script, you have ADs, you have producers.”
Priyanka Chopra’s journey exemplifies this global interconnectedness. She seamlessly navigates between Hollywood blockbusters like “Citadel” season 2, “Heads of State,” and “The Bluff,” while also contributing to Indian cinema through her recent Marathi film production venture, “Paani.”
