Fans of Prime Video’s hit action drama Reacher have something to celebrate! Amazon has officially greenlit a spinoff series centered around Frances Neagley, Jack Reacher’s former military colleague and occasional partner. Maria Sten, who portrays Neagley in both seasons of *Reacher*, will reprise her role in the untitled spinoff.
The news comes as no surprise given the immense popularity of Reacher. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed confidence in expanding the franchise: “As Reacher continues to resonate with our global customers in a profound way, expanding on the storytelling and characters with a spinoff was an easy decision.”
The new series will delve into Neagley’s backstory and explore her journey as a private investigator in Chicago. When a close friend from her past is killed in suspicious circumstances, Neagley embarks on a dangerous quest for justice, utilizing the skills she honed alongside Reacher during their time with the 110 Special Investigators.
“Lee Child created an immensely rich character with Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vivid, authentic way in Reacher,” said co-creators Nick Santora (creator of Reacher) and Nicholas Wootton (Prison Break, NYPD Blue). “Amazon, Skydance Television and CBS Studios have been tremendous partners from the start, and we are excited to explore Neagley’s story further and dive into what makes her so unique.”
The spinoff reunites the creative team behind Reacher, including executive producers Lee Child (author of the Jack Reacher novels), Don Granger, Lisa Kussner, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid, and Niko Fernandez will oversee the project for Skydance.
Maria Sten is also excited to take on this new challenge: “I’m beyond thrilled to further explore the world of Neagley and her somewhat mysterious background. She’s such a wonderful character to play and I’m very excited for everyone to get to know her a little better.”
