Apple has made a significant change with the release of iOS 18.1, simplifying the process of changing your primary email address associated with your Apple account. Previously, users had to delete their existing email address before adding a new one. This cumbersome process is now a thing of the past.
With iOS 18.1, users can easily switch their primary email address without any deletion hassle. A dedicated “Primary Email” toggle has been added to the Settings app, allowing users to designate their preferred email inbox for all communication related to their Apple account. This update is particularly convenient for individuals who use a Gmail account for collaboration on their iPhone and iPad.
Apple has also made it easier to change your primary iCloud email address, which is used for various Apple services including identity and recovery, iMessage, and FaceTime. This change not only offers convenience but also enhances security. Previously, users could only utilize aliases for their identity within shared projects; otherwise, their inbox address remained exposed.
The new iOS 18.1 update empowers users to switch to a fresh iCloud email address, allowing them to replace any less professional-sounding addresses they may have created in the past.
