WhatsApp Introduces Chat-Specific Themes for Android Beta Users

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to personalize their chat backgrounds and message colors with chat-specific themes. This update, currently available only to beta testers on Android, marks a significant step towards offering more customization options within the popular messaging app.

Unlike existing WhatsApp themes that apply globally to all chats, these new themes are unique to each individual conversation. Users can choose from a variety of pre-designed themes or customize their own by selecting colors and wallpapers. This feature allows for greater personalization and visual distinction between different conversations.

The introduction of chat-specific themes comes months after WhatsApp began developing the feature. While details about the exact number of available themes are still emerging, early reports suggest that users will have access to over 20 color options and more than 22 textured themes. The ability to change wallpapers independently from message box colors adds another layer of customization.

This move by WhatsApp aligns with similar features offered by competitors like Telegram and Facebook Messenger, which have long allowed users to personalize their chat experiences with custom themes. The availability of these themes in the latest beta version (2.24.21.34) suggests that a wider rollout to all Android users may be on the horizon.
